Fundraising and education work in Colorado

Judy Goldstock reports that on May 21, UFPJ member group the Central Colorado Coalition on the Iraq War, based in Salida, held a "wine, appetizer, and dessert fundraiser" to support their efforts to promote the peace resolution that will be presented to the Salida City Council in the fall. On June 4, they sponsored "Back From Iraq," a program which featured three women: "Dahlia Wasfi M.D. and American Iraqi, [who] recently spent 3 months in Basra and testified before Congress on the occupation's effect on the Iraqi citizen; and Elizabeth Spradlin and Kelly Dougherty, both Colorado National Guardswomen, who were trained as medics but deployed to Iraq as MPs -- they shared the war's effect upon the American soldier. It was a compelling, powerful, brutally honest testimony that moved all of the audience both in the horrors of the war and the courage of these women to speak out -- to speak the truth."
